Washington, DC – April 2, 2018 – The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is proud to announce that it is a 2018 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for its outstanding efforts in energy efficiency program delivery. IMT’s accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2018.

For more than a decade, ENERGY STAR has been a great partner to IMT and the real estate companies and local governments with whom we work,” said Cliff Majersik, Executive Director of IMT. “ENERGY STAR is an invaluable resource for businesses, governments, and others to improve the performance of their buildings and make more informed decisions. ENERGY STAR is deservedly the most recognized and trusted brand in this space, and we are proud to promote the adoption of its tools. We are honored to be named a 2018 Partner of the Year.”

“The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can save energy, save money, and reduce air emissions,” said Bill Wehrum, EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation.

In 2017, IMT’s work with ENERGY STAR included:

  • Working with 20 cities through the City Energy Project to develop and implement building performance programs and policies that utilize ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager®.
  • Launching the Landlord-Tenant Energy Partnership, partnering with 47 landlords and tenants by the end of 2017 to accelerate building energy performance in more than two million square feet of commercial building space using ENERGY STAR tools.
  • Serving as a trusted partner to the Urban Sustainability Directors Network on matters related to energy efficiency in buildings.
  • Conducting several regional in-person trainings for real estate brokers on the value of ENERGY STAR program and subsequently adapting the course into an online training that is has been consistently named a top Better Buildings Solutions Center resource.
  • Cohosting webinars and trainings with EPA experts to advise city sustainability leaders.

In 2016 alone, ENERGY STAR certified products, homes, buildings, and plants helped Americans save over $30 billion in energy costs and approximately 400 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and while achieving broad emissions reductions.
