Washington, DC (March 26, 2024) — IMT is proud to announce that it has received the 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a select group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to energy efficiency and the transition to a clean energy economy. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services, and strategies. These efforts have saved more than 5 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the past 30 years.
“IMT’s top priority is to advance the design, adoption, and implementation of policies and programs that drive demand and create pathways for healthy, efficient, and resilient buildings. ENERGY STAR tools are foundational to this work, and provide a clear and consistent framework for evaluating and improving building performance” said Alex Dews, incoming Executive Director at IMT. “We are proud to receive the 2024 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and look forward to continued partnership with ENERGY STAR program.”
“President Biden’s Investing in America agenda creates an unprecedented opportunity to build a clean energy economy, and private sector partners through programs like ENERGY STAR are leading the way,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I congratulate this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for their innovation and leadership, in delivering cost-effective energy efficient solutions that create jobs, address climate change, and contribute to a healthier environment for all.”
In 2023, IMT’s work in supporting ENERGY STAR to deliver energy efficiency programs included:
- Driving the development of building performance standards that rely on ENERGY STAR. Addressing the energy use of existing buildings is a huge area of opportunity for increased efficiency, which is why IMT has continued to advance adoption of building performance standards (BPS) that rely on Portfolio Manager.
- Supporting commercial buildings in increasing ENERGY STAR scores. Beyond policy passage, IMT is working to ensure the business community is supported in complying with new laws, including activating Portfolio Manager data. One important way we do this is through high-performance building hubs. In 2023, the Building Innovation Hub released or updated several resources to help the Washington, DC real estate community meet the city’s Building Energy Performance Standard (BEPS) by leveraging ENERGY STAR tools and programs.
- Increasing the number of buildings benchmarked through Portfolio Manager via new benchmarking legislation. Benchmarking is the foundation of all efficiency efforts as you can’t manage what you don’t measure, and IMT is a long-time supporter of ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager as the central platform for benchmarking work. In 2023, IMT continued its much-requested, on-the-ground work to create, pass, and successfully implement building benchmarking and transparency ordinances across the U.S.
- Increasing the number of buildings benchmarking through Portfolio Manager via private sector engagement. IMT’s specialty is aligning private building owners and tenants with policymakers to drive widespread collective action. In 2023, IMT continued to increase private sector engagement with ENERGY STAR tools, both to ensure success of building policies such as those noted above, and to collaboratively accelerate building energy performance in real estate portfolios nationwide.
Winners are selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners. For a complete list of 2024 winners and more information about ENERGY STAR’s awards program, visit energystar.gov/awardwinners.
