Forest City Enterprises’ Vice President of Integrated Design Services brings extensive experience pursuing sustainability in commercial real estate.
WASHINGTON, DC (December 21, 2015)—The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Joyce J. Mihalik, Vice President at Forest City Enterprises, to the organization’s Board of Directors.
“We are excited to welcome Joyce Mihalik to IMT’s Board of Directors,” said Cliff Majersik, Executive Director of IMT. “Her extensive experience provides an important perspective that will help our organization continue to align our work with key market actors who must be engaged to move the buildings sector toward a future where all buildings are energy efficient. Joyce’s long-time professional engagement and stewardship for the advancement of sustainability will be an invaluable source of knowledge.”
Ms. Mihalik is the Vice President of Integrative Design Services at Forest City Enterprises where she is responsible for the development of the company’s energy strategies for the firm’s commercial and residential building portfolio. In that role, she leads a team of engineers, architects and technical specialists who collaborate with asset managers and developers to identify best practices and standards for new construction design, sustainable programs, facilities engineering and building systems.

Forest City Enterprises is a national real estate company that owns, develops, manages, and acquires commercial and residential real estate throughout the United States, and is considered an industry leader in sustainable properties. In addition to her work at Forest City, Ms. Mihalik serves as an Advisory committee member of the Real Estate Roundtable, U.S. Green Building Council Real Estate Group, and the National Multifamily Housing Council Sustainability Board. She is a frequent public speaker, and recently published her first book on early career experiences and career planning.
Ms. Milhalik is a LEED Accredited Professional with a BS in industrial and systems engineering from The Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Akron. She began her professional career with the CNG Companies, learning energy and utilities as a trade, before leaving to join a venture capital firm, where she served as Vice President of Public Relations, concentrating on permitting and regulatory affairs in the power industry. She then pursued her interests in the energy arena as an end user, leading supply- and demand-side strategies at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

Goldstein, IMT co-founder and Board Chair and co-director of the energy program at the Natural Resources Defense Council; Henrietta Davis, former Mayor of Cambridge, Mass.; Peter Graham, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Global Buildings Performance Network; Adam Hinge, managing director of Sustainable Energy Partnerships; Charlotte Matthews, Vice President of Sustainability for Related Companies; Alan S. Miller, a consultant on climate change policy and finance for several international organizations and an adjunct visiting professor at the University of Michigan School of Law; and Paul Waide, Director of Waide Strategic Efficiency.
