On Wednesday, Sept. 12, IMT and AIA|DC are teaming up to offer a four-hour workshop to help architects navigate DC’s energy codes. Led by IMT’s Code Compliance Specialist Ryan Meres, the workshop will be held from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the District Architecture Center, 421 7th St. NW, in downtown Washington. The course is selling out fast; sign up on the AIA|DC website.
The cost of attending is $75 for Assoc. AIA/students; $95 for AIA members; and $135 for non-members. Registration is required. 4.0 HSW/SD LU.
The District is in the process of reviewing all of the 2012 international codes, including the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and the International Green Construction Code (IgCC), for adoption in early 2013. There have been many changes to the IECC since the 2006 version. Meanwhile, DC may become the first jurisdiction in the country to adopt the IgCC as a mandatory code.
After the presentation, participants will be able to:
- discuss the current DC energy code;
- discuss upcoming, significant changes to the code;
- discuss Chapter 6 of the IgCC (Energy Conservation, Efficiency & Atmospheric Quality), and potential DC-specific amendments; and
- discuss how and where energy codes have the most impact on the design process.
