This report examines the homeowner energy cost impacts of reinstating equipment trade-offs, as proposed by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) in RE166-13 for the residential energy chapter of the 2015 IECC. Such trade-offs would allow the installation of less efficient windows, reduced insulation levels, or increased infiltration in exchange for installing more efficient heating, cooling, or water heating systems.
