After months of careful consideration, Community Climate Shift has selected nine new organizations to co-lead our work transforming how communities and governments work together to address climate change and social justice. These organizations are located in cities and states receiving technical assistance from IMT and our partners through a $5 million Department of Energy award. Each organization will receive a grant from Community Climate Shift. This will allow us to braid together philanthropic and federal dollars to to model community-centered policymaking in nine different places across the country.
Staff from the Institute for Market Transformation and the People’s Climate Innovation Center identified possible community partners through a social change ecosystem mapping process and submitted recommendations to the Steering Committee for alignment. The Steering Committee is a diverse group of community-based organizations that comprise our Building Equity in Climate Solutions and Equitable Decarbonization Collaborators.
We are proud to announce the following new community partners:
- California
- Chicago
- Kansas City, MO
- Minneapolis
- New Orleans
- St. Louis
- Washington, DC
We will also expand work with two existing partners: PODER in San Francisco and POWER Interfaith in Philadelphia.
We have funded these organizations for one year and are actively seeking additional funding to support these efforts through years 2 and 3 of the DOE award. Contact Betsy Law to learn more about investing in Community Climate Shift.
